The Bob McClure Chautauqua Play Readers is a group of dedicated volunteers in the greater Chautauqua community with a passion for play reading. Our season begins in early fall and runs throughout the winter and spring. The readers occasionally perform some of their best comedic material to the delight of audiences during the Chautauqua summer season.

The Bob McClure Chautauqua Play Readers was officially brought under the care of Friends of Chautauqua Theater in 2023. This collaboration has given FCT the proud distinction of being Chautauqua’s first year-round community group.

Same Time Next Year

by Bernard Slade
Directed by David Tabish

Same Time Next Year ostensibly recounts a twenty-five-year adulterous relationship while charmingly exploring the complex interplay of love, marriage, relationship, loyalty, friendship and human caring.  Its action embraces both warm and humanly engaging adult humor and a twenty-five year review of popular culture.   It will touch your heart as it simultaneously gives you a few good laughs.

The Other Side

There was a titanic clash between two famous people of the early twentieth century: Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, over the subject of Spiritualism. Doyle believed fervently that he was able to contact the dead; believed in fact, that he had conversations with his departed son. Houdini called it trickery performed by con artists for the purpose of robbing those who mourn for their loved ones. Tempestuous meetings between them were inevitable. Two of those meetings - one in England, the other in Atlantic City - are depicted in this play.
